Valentino Lazaro ‘contacted’ by Champions League club – NUFC facing late competition – Report

According to reports in Germany, RB Leipzig have entered the race to sign Newcastle target Valentino Lazaro.

This comes from BILD, who claim that the Bundesliga side are now competing with ourselves for the Austrian’s signature.

The German outlet claim RB Leipzig have now been in contact with the player’s camp – however the fact Lazaro’s agent was on Tyneside over the weekend does suggest that we may still be in pole position to secure his signature.

BILD do claim that RB Leipzig were one of the sides trying to sign him last summer before he completed a £20m move to Inter Milan, but we’ll have to hope he favours a move to the Premier League over a return to the Bundesliga – where he had several successful seasons with Hertha Berlin.

With Willems ‘out for the season’ and us having just 12 days left to do business, let’s hope we fend off any competition by getting this one wrapped up ASAP.

  1. I would hazard a guess and say that a young player who is struggling to get a game with his own team would rather come to the Prem for the money than go elsewhere in Europe to sit on the bench in Europe.
