Gianluca Di Marzio – Sky Sports’ main man in Italy – has shared a concerning update on the future of Newcastle target Valentino Lazaro, showing his agent holding talks with RB Leipzig chiefs last night.
This comes after the Austrian’s agent, Max Hagmayr, told the Italian media yesterday that there was “no agreement yet” with Newcastle despite talks on Tyneside over the weekend.
He also added that Lazaro had “other options” – and it looks like a serious one is RB Leipzig, with Di Marzio revealing that the player’s agent met with the Bundesliga side’s boss Markus Krosche and their sporting director in Milan last night:
The fact he left St James’ Park on Saturday without an agreement in place and is now speaking to the top brass at RB Leipzig (the current leaders of the Bundesliga), you can’t help but fear we’re running a serious risk of missing out here.
Di Marzio also claims that Leipzig boss Krosche has “talked for a long time” with Lazaro’s agent, claiming he was keen to sign the 23-year-old before he completed a £20m move to Inter Milan last summer.
Hopefully Lazaro fancies a crack at the Premier League after a stint in Germany with Hertha Berlin, however a team top of the Bundesliga and in the last 16 of the Champions League could well seem a more attractive proposition.
Let’s hope we make our move quickly and get this one tied up before Leipzig beat us too it – although they may have already done so if last night’s talks went better than Hagmayr’s on Tyneside.
