The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards is the latest journalist to confirm we’re now closing in on Valentino Lazaro – and has revealed why we look set to sign the Inter Milan man ahead of RB Leipzig.
Journalist reveals why Lazaro chose NUFC over Leipzig – & the 2 deals Bruce wants done next
He claims the 23-year-old would “prefer to test himself in the Premier League rather than return to Germany” – a league he played in for several years prior to his £20m move to Inter Milan last summer.
Interestingly, Edwards also reveals that we’ve been “watching him for several years” and were keen to sign him last year during his time with Hertha Berlin.
Elsewhere on the transfer front, The Telegraph claim Bruce will turn his attentions to the signing of a striker AND left-back once Lazaro’s move is confirmed – with the latter area now being looked at after Willems and Dummett suffered season-ending injuries.
No names are mentioned on the striker front, but Edwards states Bruce is keen to reignite his ‘long-standing interest’ in Danny Rose – but admits wages could be a ‘stumbling block’ should we make a move for the Spurs outcast.
With Bentaleb in and Lazaro’s arrival appearing to be imminent, we could be set up nicely for the second half of the season should a striker and left-back arrive.
I can see us bringing in a left-back on a short-term deal (perhaps Rose on loan?), but I’m a little more sceptical on our search for a striker, with few quality options available at this stage of the season.
