According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have made a ‘shock enquiry’ to sign former Newcastle flop Islam Slimani on loan.
The Algerian has been in impressive form for Monaco this season and was heavily linked with a potential move to Aston Villa earlier this month, but it’s now claimed the Red Devils are interested in signing him after news Marcus Rashford will be missing for the next few months.
He may have found form in France, but his unimpressive spells at Leicester City (who still own him) and Newcastle suggest he’d be a highly unconvincing signing at Premier League level and one that won’t quell the unrest at Old Trafford.
The Mail claim they’ve made an enquiry and could pay a £4m loan fee to sign him until the end of the season following a run of 7 goals and 7 assists in 13 games in France:
Since his disastrous loan spell at Newcastle over the second half of the 2017/18 season, Slimani has had a really mixed time of it.
Hstruggled badly at Fenerbahce across 2018/19, scoring just one league for the Turkish giants, however he’s doing brilliantly in Ligue 1 with Monaco this season, being involved in 14 goals in just 13 league appearances.
