Bruce reveals the “excellent” trait Valentino Lazaro will bring to his NUFC side

Steve Bruce has hailed new kid on the block Valentino Lazaro, praising his “excellent delivery” and “good pace” – believing the Austrian will be a real hit in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old’s switch from Inter Milan was confirmed on Friday afternoon, and the gaffer has since had some very positive words to say about our latest loan recruit.

Here’s what he’s had to say to BBC Newcastle’s Matthew Raisbeck:

“He just gives us an extra option going forward.

He can play wide on the right and wide on the left – and he’s got a good pedigree.

“His time at Inter Milan, where it hasn’t gone as well as he’d probably have liked and that’s why he’s here, let’s be brutally honest.

“But, he played well in Germany and, a big, experienced international. I think the Premier League will suit him.

“He’s got a good delivery – excellent delivery – and got good pace.

“I’m delighted we’ve got him here and he’ll give us an extra option going forward.”

It is a real positive that we’re making moves to sign in January opposed to sell – something we’ve been guilty of doing in the past.

Lazaro is NOT eligible for today, with paperwork being submitted too late, but fans may see a glimpse of fellow new boy Nabil Bentaleb ahead of the FA Cup clash against Oxford at a sold-out St James’ Park..

It is a cautious approach but a sensible one that both loan deals have ‘options to buy’ clauses that can be exercised should their next 5 months prove to be a success on Tyneside.

The £40million spent on Joelinton has not looked value for money so far, leaving us way of splashing more cash midway through the season, but our latest two loans seem like quality captures.

Let’s hope they can both hit the ground running and become real hits at St James’ Park.

Howay The Lads!
