NUFC hope to sign 19-goal striker on loan with £25m ‘option to buy’ by Friday – Northern Echo

Rumours are continuing to circulate linking us with a surprise loan move for Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer.

The Sun initially broke the story on Saturday that we were eyeing a potential move for the hitman, who has found the net 12 times in 14 appearances for Spain, and now the Northern Echo claim we’re hoping to ‘push through’ a deal before Friday’s deadline.

They report that we are hopeful of securing a loan deal with an ‘option to buy’ for £25m, with Steve Bruce adamant that current takeover talk won’t have an impact on incomings and outgoings at the club.

That said, it’s claimed Spurs could rival our interest, with Mourinho on the look out for a short-term replacement for the injured Harry Kane.

Here’s a snippet of Scott Wilson’s piece in the Northern Echo here:

NEWCASTLE UNITED are hoping to push through a loan move for Spanish striker Paco Alcacer ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, with Steve Bruce confident the latest bout of takeover speculation will not affect his ability to complete deals.

Newcastle’s recruitment team have spoken to Borussia Dortmund officials about a move for Alcacer, who is keen to leave his current employers this month in an attempt to safeguard his position in the Spain squad for Euro 2020.

The 26-year-old spent three years with Barcelona before moving to Dortmund on loan at the start of last season. He did extremely well last term, scoring 18 Bundesliga goals in 26 appearances, a run of form that secured him a €23m permanent transfer and a five-year deal last January. However, his fortunes have plummeted in the current campaign, with Dortmund boss Lucien Favre handing him just six league starts.

Newcastle are aware of his potential availability, and are set to push for a loan deal with a clause for a possible £25m transfer at the end of the season.

However, Tottenham have been tracking Alcacer for the best part of two years and are preparing a counter-offer of their own. With Harry Kane having been ruled out of the vast majority of the remainder of the season, Jose Mourinho is desperate to secure another attacking option.

The signing of Paco Alcacer would be a real coup for us in my opinion, as the forward has been prolific in front of goal at every club he has been at.

He even once donned the famous red and blue of Barcelona, and has been a hit at Borussia Dortmund since he first joined the club on loan in 2018.

He has 7 goals in 15 appearances this season and bagged an impressive 19 goals in 32 games during their 2018/19 campaign.

Alcacer is a real poacher in front of goal and his playing style has been compared to legendary Spanish goalscorer Raul, so his addition to the side would be a massive boost and could see us really challenge to get into that top 10 this season.

The only negative would be where this would leave record buy Joelinton, who has struggled to make an impact since his arrival at the club.

Signing another forward would seriously undermine his transfer, but at 23-years-old, time is still on his to turn his fortunes around and become a success at the club.

  1. If Tottenham are in competition, especially after Harry Kane injury, then NO chance of him coming to Newcastle – bright lights of London will ALWAYS beckon!

  2. Is the writer seriously worried about Joelinton? Not that I’m hopeful this will happen, but give your head a soak if you’re more worried about Joelinton’s feelings than us scoring goals. In any case someone coming in to take the burden off him could be exactly what he needs.
