According to another ‘exclusive’ from Football Insider, West Brom will try to sign Christian Atsu before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The Ghanaian has made 22 appearances this season, but has managed just starts – and his game time may be reduced even further following last week’s arrival of versatile winger Valentino Lazaro.
That said, Football Insider say ‘remains to be seen’ if Steve Bruce will sanction a late exit, with the Baggies expected to pursue a loan deal.
Here’s a snippet from Peter O’Rourke’s latest piece on Slaven Bilic’s interest in the 28-year-old:
Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has emerged as a target for West Brom before the close of the transfer window, Football Insider understands.
Hawthorns manager Slaven Bilic is working on strengthening his attacking options before Friday’s cut-off following an alarming slump in form.
A West Brom source has told Football Insider that the club have now set their sights on Atsu, as they plot a blizzard of last-gasp deals.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle would consider letting Atsu out this month due to the amount of injuries Bruce is currently contending with.
Believe it or not, Atsu is our joint top assister this season, bagging 4 in all competitions, but his performances haven’t been anywhere near good enough of late.
He has pace and showed flashes in the opening weeks of the season in Saint-Maximin’s absence, however his final ball, lack of intensity and tendency to drift out of games has rightfully seen him left out of Bruce’s side recently.
He needs to be moved on and replaced with better soon, but I’d be surprised if we sanctioned his exit this month, with us having few options out wide aside from Almiron, ASM and Lazaro.
Please, yes. He’s f’n useless. Hopefully a home can also be found for Ritchie, Hayden and Shelvey as well.
