Journalist claims NUFC have just submitted ‘blockbuster bid’ for Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen

According to a big ‘exclusive’ from Football Insider’s Peter O’Rourke, Newcastle have submitted a bid for Jarrod Bowen.

The report states the offer could rise to £20m ‘including add-ons’, with a ‘Newcastle source’ believed to have informed them that we’ve finally made an official move for Steve Bruce’s ‘top target’.

Hull City have an option to extend his current deal by a further 12 months, but Football Insider claim that is yet to be activated, with the player said to want out.

Here’s a snippet from O’Rourke’s ‘exclusive’:

Newcastle United have submitted a blockbuster Jarrod Bowen bid worth £20million in total, Football Insider has learned.

The Magpies have made a formal move for the in-demand Hull City forward, 23, after his sensational form in the opening half of the campaign.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider the club have lodged an offer for Bowen that could rise to £20m including add-ons.

The Premier League club are in the market for more firepower ahead of Friday night’s transfer deadline.

Hull are vulnerable to losing Bowen as he is out of contract this summer.

The Championship club have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months but that has not yet been activated amid doubts over whether he wants to stay.

The prolific left-footed scorer is eager to test himself at the highest level but does not want to join a club where he is not a regular starter.

The 23-year-old is clearly a big target of Bruce’s – and it’s easy to see why after bagging 38 Championship goals in the last 18 months – however I’d take this report with a pinch of salt.

There’s a chance any transfer payments Mike Ashley makes now would be reimbursed by potential new owners should a takeover be in place, but I struggle to see us doing any major business like this while a potential £340 buyout is in the balance.

Bowen would be a great signing and someone who could add a real goal-threat to our forward line, but both the source reporting this and the timing of it all makes it seem a bit dubious.
