According to reports in Germany, Newcastle are now exploring the option to sign Hertha Berlina striker Davie Selke before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
This comes from BILD, who report that ourselves, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton and Watford are all holding talks to sign the 6ft 4′ forward – who reportedly wants to out ‘as quickly as possible’.
Ironically, the report claims that the 25-year-old could move on because of the imminent £23m arrival of Krzysztof Piatek – the AC Milan striker we were trying to sign earlier this month!
This is not the first time we’ve been linked with a potential move for the former Germany U-21 international.
Selke showed huge promise a few years ago, but has had a mixed time of it in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons.
He’s managed 5 goals and 11 assists across the last season and a half at Hertha Berlin, but bagged an impressive 14 goals and 4 assists in 31 appearances across their 2017/18 campaign.
He fits the ball in terms of age, availability and previous links, but time will tell if there’s anything in this new link.
