Newcastle table ‘bid’ for Porto striker – but 2 others also in the running – Dubious report

Vincent Aboubakar was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park in the summer of 2014 and 2017 – and reports in Portugal suggest we might be back in for him several years later.

According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã, we are one of THREE clubs who’ve tabled a bid for the Cameroonian striker.

This comes via Sport Witness, who reveal that ourselves, Espanyol and Danish giants Brøndby have all been credited with bids for the 28-year-old.

That said, the report claims he could be on his way to Spain, with Espanyol favourites to sign him.

In some respects it’s a believable story given our past ‘interest’, our need for a striker and his availability at Porto after losing his place in their side – but it’s worth noting that NUFC-related reports from Portugal have been far more miss than hit of late.

Aboubakar was one of the Portuguese league’s top strikers just a few years ago – with him scoring 26 goals across 2017/18 – however a cruciate knee ligament injury at the start of last season has set him back.

As a result, he’s played just 18 times in the last 18 months, scoring 6 times in the process.

  1. Please put without prejudice on all your guessing articles.

Dubious report is not worth the time you took to copy and paste.

  2. If they get a strike this has been a good window to keep us in the league I don’t mind loans, n feel it’s best for the winter window anyhow. The take over was never gonna happen Ashley doesn’t want to sell. Newcastle buy him failing company’s. Had mixed feeling on the Saudi deal but I think all the deals r real Mike is going nowhere cause he doesn’t want to sell
