According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, Newcastle have now ‘terminated’ Ki Sung-yeung’s contract.
This comes from the north-east reporter’s latest update from the club’s training ground live on Sky Sports, with him claiming the South Korean has been released from his contract early in order to secure a new club.
Downie states the player has “come to an agreement” with Newcastle and will now be able find a new club as a ‘free agent’ as of tomorrow:
With Ki’s wage demands said to be getting in the way of a potential loan move, this could be a smart decision and one that suits all parties, allowing us to get him off the wage bill and giving Ki himself a chance to play.
He did a job for us and seemed a pretty steady signing on a free agent when Benitez signed him a few years ago, but his lack of game time under Steve Bruce has seen him become our fifth choice midfielder – with him starting just once all season.
Good luck to him!
