During a couple of seasons at St James’ Park, Joselu managed 7 goals in all competitions – a tally he’s already surpassed in half a season in Spain.
Not only has the Spaniard bagged an impressive 9 goals in 21 games with new club Alaves, the 29-year-old is now the FOURTH top scorer in La Liga, with only Lionel Messi (14), Karim Benzema (13) and Luis Suarez (11) outscoring him so far this season.
Add into this the fact he’s playing at an Alaves side battling relegation, it’s quite something that he’s now outscoring the likes of Eden Hazard, Antoine Griezmann, Willians Jose and Alvaro Morata after his goal-shy stint at St James’ Park.
He’s not just scoring against the league’s struggling sides either, with him bagging goals in each of Alaves’ last two games against top 4 contenders Sevilla and Villarreal.
He always worked hard and seemed a good family man who never complained and got on with everyone – I never understood some of the vile abuse that was sent his way – however he never looked up to it at Premier League level.
Yet, a few months on from his summer exit and many Newcastle fans genuinely believe we’d be better off with him than our £40m Brazilian who’s struggling badly in Steve Bruce’s stifling system.
Our former flop has now scored more goals this season than Joelinton, Carroll, Muto, Gayle, Saint-Maximin and Almiron combined.
It’s a funny old game..
The Premier League is undoubtedly the hardest league in the world to play in. If he came back tomorrow he’d find the same problems against the Prem’s top defenders who are so organised, committed, can outrun, out jump and out muscle most forwards.
There aren’t many Shearers, Salahs and Agueros around.

You having a laugh? Joselu work hard!!! Did you actually watch the idiot in any games? Probably the worst striker ever in the premier league. But because he was Spanish Rafa loved the bloke. Utter waste of time at the toon

I think most NUFC fans would say he tried – he was just slow and not very good!

Well in that case why doesn’t a Spanish side come in and buy Joe Linton, I suspect he would be knocking on the door of top scorer in Spain compared to Joselu, Given the choice of either up front I would rather play my Grandmother and she is dead.
