Updates on Joelinton & Almiron arrive after both limp away from Oxford last night

Steve Bruce has provided an update on Joelinton and Miguel Almiron’s injury situations after both players hobbled off in last night’s 3-2 win over Oxford.

Joelinton scored one and assisted another during his 37 minutes on the pitch, but a rib injury forced him off early, while Almiron looked shattered and seemed to be holding his calf moments before he was taken off.

Here’s what Bruce said after the game, saying Almiron may just be ‘sore, stiff and tired’, but could face a nervous wait on Joelinton:

“Joelinton got a whack to his ribs.

He’s sore in there. Let’s hope there’s no fracture or break.

“Almiron – I think he’s just sore and stiff and tired.”

“They’ve been manful over the past few weeks, they’ve not missed a game, so they deserve a bit of time off.”

“The hope for all of us is that Joelinton and Almiron are ok.

After a brilliant finish and confidence boosting display, let’s hope it’s just a sore whack for Joelinton and not a fracture or break that Bruce fears.

The gaffer had hinted after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Norwich that both forwards were on the verge of burnout after playing almost every game so far this season.

With our next game not for another 12 days due to the winter break, it gives both lads a chance to rest up and recharge ahead of the final furlong of the season.
