According to reports in Brazil, Newcastle are eyeing a summer bid for Fluminense talent Marcos Paulo.
This comes via Sport Witness, who reveal that Brazilian outlet Gazeta Esportiva are crediting ourselves with interest in the 19-year-old forward.
They report that the Rio de Janeiro side ‘aren’t confident’ they’ll be able to keep the player much longer, stating that Newcastle are one of three sides weighing up a summer bid.
The 6ft 1′ striker has 6 goals and 6 assists in 31 games for Fluminense. He’s Brazilian born but has represented Portugal’s youth teams, bagging 4 goals in 8 appearances at U-18 and U-19 level.
CSKA Moscow are believed to have submitted a €7m already – however it’s claimed both Fluminense and the player himself have already rejected that, with Marcos Paulo preferring to player in a ‘more attractive’ league in Europe.
The other club reportedly interested is Barcelona – so you’d think our hopes of signing the striker may be over before they’ve even begun IF the Catalan giants really are readying a bid.
