According to the Mirror, Newcastle are now showing interest in Wigan Athletic star Antonee Robinson ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
The 22-year-old left-back was on the verge of completing a £10m move to AC Milan on deadline day last month, but the Serie A giants ran out of time to complete the deal.
As a result, the Mirror’s Neil Moxley claims a host of Premier League clubs are now eyeing a move for the USA international this summer, with both ourselves, Chelsea and Aston Villa said to be keen.
The former Everton U-23 joined Wigan for £2m last summer and has been a regular for them over their past season and a half in the Championship.
Robinson has operated at left-back and left-midfield for the Latics, suggesting he could fit into Steve Bruce’s preferred 5-2-2-1 system as a wing-back.
That said, we have a few options in this area, with Danny Rose currently on loan (and in contention to sign permanently if he impresses), while we also have an option to sign Jetro Willems should we decide he’ll make a full recovery from his recent ACL injury.
