NUFC star now “touch and go” for Sunday’s trip to Arsenal – but 3 tipped to return – Report

Despite claims he was set for an extended spell on the sidelines, the Chronicle claim Jonjo Shelvey is rated “touch and go” for Sunday’s trip to Arsenal.

It was announced on the 29th January that he’d suffered a new hamstring injury – and the Mail’s Craig Hope claimed he’d be missing for “at least a month” – however it looks like he could return to action earlier than expected.

Just two weeks on from reports that he’d miss our entire fixture list in February, the Chronicle claim today that Bruce has described the NUFC midfielder as “touch and go” for this weekend’s trip to the Emirates.

Elsewhere, Bruce is said to be ‘hopeful’ that Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto will return, with the winter break allowing them to recover from respective hip and hamstring injuries.

With us yet to receive an update on Joelinton’s fitness after the Brazilian went off holding is hip at Oxford last week, it could be a real boost to have THREE strikers back fit.

As for Shelvey, we may have Bentaleb, Hayden and the two Longstaff’s, but he is our current top scorer and midfield orchestrator, having rediscovered glimpses of his best form since Bruce’s arrival.

I doubt Bruce will risk Shelvey on Sunday given his injury history and the midfield options available in reserve, but it sounds like he should be ready to return at Crystal Palace next weekend.

  1. Don’t you all (Media) think its about time all this rubbish regarding Newcastle looking at players for the Summer window should end.We know its all propaganda to get people to read newspapers and to justify the writers jobs.
Why don’t you all do something better with your time like try and get an honest statement off Ashley and the board.

It’s time we were all put out of our misery.
    The pantomime season is over.
