Last week, NUFC fan Matty Renton – from popular fan channel ‘The Magpie Channel‘ – promised to bleach his hair just like Joelinton’s if the Brazilian scored at Oxford.
A week on and he’s carried out his dare after the 23-year-old striker found the net in our FA Cup win at the Kassam Stadium – and even received a surprised FaceTime call from the big man himself!

Here’s what Matty’s had to say about his brief chat with the club’s record signing – also explaining exactly how his new bleached barnet came about!
“I put the dare out on the Saturday against Norwich and since he didn’t score, people were messaging the channel on the day of the Oxford game saying are ‘you gonna do the dare tonight?!’
“A couple beers in I agreed to it!
“I didn’t know whether to celebrate or not when he scored but he got us on our way to the next round so it’s all worth it!
“Joelinton gets his hair done at the same place – Tom Baxter hair. I’ve been going there for years so I know tom quite well.
“Obviously Tom knew the crack with getting the same thing done as Joelinton, so he asked Joe if we could FaceTime him to show him and have a bit of banter about it!
“Joe picked up straight away, said “nice hair bro” then went onto talk about being fit for Arsenal, enjoying the winter break on holiday with family and being confident about continuing scoring goals after bagging at Oxford.
“I asked about the FA cup and he said the lads are taking it serious and have a great chance at getting past West Brom to progress.
“I told him to keep grafting and that he’s doing well and the lads are getting some great results.
“He was so sound and appreciative, really nice guy!
“Top man for taking the time to speak!”
Hats off to Matty for delivering on his promise and top marks for Joelinton too, with most modern day players unlikely to pick up the phone – let alone chat – when called by a fan.
