Steve Bruce fears Ciaran Clark has suffered a ‘serious’ ankle injury during Sunday’s 4-0 defeat – with the defender spotted leaving the Emirates on crutches.
The centre-back was caught late by Bukayo Saka and looked in a lot of pain as he forced off in the 83rd minute, limping badly as he went straight down the tunnel in some pain.
Here’s what Bruce has had to say about his injury after the game:
“He’s got a bad one. It doesn’t look good.
“By the state of his ankle, it looks pretty serious.
“We’ll know more in next 24-48 hours.”
It wasn’t his best game here – although I’m not sure anyone aside from ASM can come away with any real credit – but he will be missed if he’s set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Lejeune is more than capable of coming into the side in his absence, yet with fellow left-sided centre-back Paul Dummett already out for the season, we’ll have to hope this isn’t as bad as first feared for Clark.
Fingers crossed it’s not too bad – but Bruce’s comments (and claims of him leaving on crutches) don’t fill me with confidence ahead of upcoming games against Palace and Burnley!
