There hasn’t been anything too positive to say about this Newcastle team statistics wise this season, except the most important one which of course is the points tally.
While we sit in 13th place on 31 points, we are in or around the bottom of nearly every footballing metric there is, which makes this gem of a stat all the more pleasantly surprising.
The excellent Twitter account The Other 14, which focuses on teams outside the Premier League’s big 6, has produced a table showing the players with the least possession losses per game so far this season, and top of the table is none other than wor skipper Jamaal Lascelles!

There’s no doubt Lascelles has been an excellent captain for us in the last 3 and a half years, but his technical ability and ball retention are not usually the qualities he is renowned for, but there you have it!
Lascelles is joined in the top 20 (just) by Jetro Willems, who we are all hoping can recover from his double cruciate knee ligament injury, and make a permanent move from Eintract Frankfurt this summer.
We have to have the ball first for him to lose it!
