Newcastle want to sign Portuguese international with ‘€30m buyout clause’ – Report

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Newcastle remain interested in SC Braga star Ricardo Horta.

They claim we were ‘willing to shell out nearly €12m’ (£10M) for the winger in January, but were told the Liga NOS side were unwilling to sell their star man for such a fee.

Record state a ‘€30m buyout clause’ exists in his current deal, however it seems Braga have no interest in letting him leave for a fee in the region of £10m – and rightly so given he’s their star man and top scorer.

Horta has bagged 18 goals and 7 assists in all competitions this season, is a Portuguese international and is coming into his peak years at 25.

Although we splashed out on Joelinton last summer, paying an almost unbelievable ‘£40m’ fee for the former Hoffenheim star, it’s classic Newcastle United (under Mike Ashley) to come in with a ‘€12m offer’ for a player clearly worth much more in this day and age.

He’s under contract until 2024 and looks set to receive plenty interest this summer after another impressive season, so it seems we’ll need to up our offer considerably if we wish to sign him – presuming this reoccurring link from Portugal is true, that is!

Here’s him in action:
