“He’s arguably our best player” – Bruce praises NUFC star, but his comments say it all..

Steve Bruce has been singing the praises of Martin Dubravka, and so he should be – saying the Slovakian is ‘arguably our best player’.

The NUFC boss accepts he’s been our ‘outstanding’ player most weeks, which sadly says a lot about how our games have tended to go this season.

If it wasn’t for him we would undoubtedly be staring relegation in the face, and at any other club Bruce would certainly be out of a job.

Here’s his latest comments on the NUFC stopper:

“The goalkeeper has made some great saves.

“Especially in the first half, that one from Gary Cahill.

“He’s arguably our best player and he will be disappointed when he sees the goal back.

He’s gone the other way and the way goalkeepers are, it went his side and he will be disappointed he didn’t save it.

“But how many times have I come into a Press conference and said the goalkeeper has been outstanding.

“He was outstanding again.”

Bruce alluded to mistakes from Dubravka in both his last two post match interviews, and of course they were mistakes. However a lot of fans on social media and various podcasts were far from impressed with Bruce’s public criticism of a player who is effectively keeping him in a job!

It’s hard to believe Dubravka only cost £4m from Slavia Prague, and he is fast approaching parity with Shay Given as one of our best goalkeepers in recent years.

Surely there will be interest in him from bigger clubs in the summer.

We wait with baited breath..
