According to German outlet BILD, Newcastle are showing ‘serious interest’ in Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch.
The 24-year-old is a former teammate of NUFC striker Joelinton, having played alongside the Brazilian during his 11 goal, 9 assist season in the Bundesliga across their 2018/19 campaign.
Grillitsch has bagged one goal and three assists from midfield this season and has received serious Premier League interest from, Arsenal, Southampton and ourselves according to BILD – who also claim a £21m release clause exists in his current deal.
Joelinton isn’t the only Newcastle player he’ll know well, with the 6ft 2′ Austrian also playing alongside compatriot Valentino Lazaro at international level.
He operates as a holding midfielder and has bagged 12 assists and 4 goals in 124 appearances in the Bundesliga, having arrived at Hoffenheim in 2017 on a free from Werder Bremen.
If we do make a move for him this summer, let’s hope this one works out better than Joelinton’s time on Tyneside so far!
12 assists and 4 goals in 124 games IS NOTA £20 MILLION player, if that’s all he can do in Germany he has NO CHANCE IN the Premier, come on, get a bloody grip

‘Get a grip’? As the article states, he’s a ‘holding midfielder’.
Ngolo Kante has 10 goals and 10 assists in 160 PL appearances – but no one can question his ability as a defensive midfielder.
