Steve Bruce has shared a big injury update ahead of tomorrow’s crucial clash with Burnley.
The NUFC boss has confirmed that Jonjo Shelvey and Javier Manquillo are fit and ready to return, while Emil Krafth is back in contention after resuming training this week – although he’s not expected to be involved just yet.
Sadly, it’s not so good news on Ciaran Clark, however, with Bruce confirming he may need an operation on his ankle ligaments after being ruled out for the season.
Elsewhere, Andy Carroll has been ruled out once again, while Valentino Lazaro is suspended and Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems remain out for the season.
Here’s what he’s had to say on the fitness front when speaking to the press from the club’s training ground this morning:
“We’re OK. Andy (Carroll) won’t make it but the rest have trained.
“Jonjo’s trained for the last ten days or so, so it’s good to see him back,” he said.
“(Javier) Manquillo’s back, so it’s good to see him back as well.
“The disappointing news is on Ciaran Clark.
“It looks as if he might need an operation to repair the ankle ligaments he’s damaged.
“He’s, arguably, been one of our better players this year – steady in his approach, and chipped in with a couple of goals.
“The blessing is even with Dummy & Ciaran out we still have 4 centre-backs. In that area we’re quite strong.”
There’s no update on Christian Atsu, who was ruled out via illness last week and failed to take part in training yesterday based on the club’s latest photos from Benton.
So, Shelvey looks set to return – which will be a huge boost – while it’ll be between Manquillo and Yedlin at right-back with Lazaro set for a one-game suspension.
