NUFC player set for ‘meeting’ to decide future this week after club make move to sign him – Report

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle are set to hold a meeting with Matty Longstaff this week after the midfielder received an offer from an unnamed ‘ambitious European club’.

The club have STILL failed to come to an agreement over a new contract with the 19-year-old, meaning club’s are now able to contact him over a potential cut-price move this summer.

It’s believed he could leave for a compensation fee of around £400,000 – and the Chronicle’s Ciaran Clark claims we’ll reach out to his camp for talks this week after an unnamed club made a move to sign him following the lack of progress regarding a potential new deal.

The Athletic confirmed last week that both Inter Milan and Marseille had showed interest, so it remains to be seen if it’s one of those who’ve offered the local lad a contract.

Some may wonder if Matty’s asking for too much after breaking into Steve Bruce’s first-team squad, but I’d like to bet that Mike Ashley and co. are abusing the fact he’s a local lad living the dream and desperate to stay, sending him derisory offers as a result.

Who knows, but it would be an absolute travesty if we lost one of our brightest homegrown talents this summer – especially for a few thousand pounds!
