NUFC ‘interested’ in signing ex-Man City striker 9 years on from £7m sale – Dubious report

According to reports in Ecuador, Newcastle are interested in signing Lazio striker Felipe Caicdeo.

This comes from Ecuadorian outlet ‘Ecuagol’, who claim that we are one of THREE Premier League sides keen on the former Manchester City striker, with ourselves, Everton and West Ham all linked.

The striker – who scored 8 goals in 26 games at the Etihad – spent several seasons out on loan while on City’s books, before completing a £7m move to Lokomotiv Moscow back in 2011.

Now in Italy, Caicedo has been in impressive form when he’s played this season, helping Lazio move two points clear of Juventus at the top of Serie A – but the fact he’s 31 casts doubt over this latest transfer rumour.

He’s bagged 8 goals and 4 assists in 21 appearances in Italy this term, despite regularly appearing from the bench as their ‘plan B’ option behind Serie A goal machine Ciro Immobile and Argentine talent Joaquin Correa.

The Ecuadorian powerhouse may suit our system in terms of his physicality and ability to lead the line on his own – something we’ve missed since Salomon Rondon’s loan ended – but it would be unlike Mike Ashley to sanction a move for a 31-year-old.

Here’s him in action – just incase this dubious link ends up having some truth in it:
