Bruce makes big Miguel Almiron claim – & reveals what he does ‘every day’ in training

Steve Bruce believes Miguel Almiron is arguably the club’s “best player” after thriving in the number 10 role in midweek.

The Paraguayan struggled earlier in the season when played on the right-hand side by Bruce, however he’s finally moved to his ‘best position’ over the past 2 games – and has looked a different player as a result.

He was our most lively player against Burnley and was outstanding at West Brom on Tuesday, with his two well taken goals not only sending us into the FA Cup quarter finals but making him our new top scorer on 6!

Here’s what Bruce has had to say about Miggy – revealing how the 26-year-old tops all the statistics in training every day:

“We’re playing Miggy (Almiron) in his best position just off the striker & it’s brought him back to life.

“He looks a really, really good player again.

“The kid’s a very good player & is a manager’s dream.

“He plays every day, trains every day. Physically, running statistic wise, every statistic he wins, whether it’s training or a match.

He plays with a smile on his face and you want people like that to do well.”

“He’s never any problem. He’s arguably our best player now”

“He’s a delight to manage.:

Bruce claimed Dubravka was ‘arguably our best player’ a few weeks ago, but clearly feels it could now be Almiron – a player who gives us so much both on and off the ball when he’s ‘at it’.

Both Bruce and us Newcastle United fans can learn from his rise to form. A) Bruce must continue to play him in his best position and take his own advice (not put him on the right as he did earlier this season and B) fans must realise the importance of sticking with a new signing when he initially struggles.

Almiron was starting to look worryingly bad in front of goal just a few months ago, but his finishes against West Brom on Tuesday are proof of what a bit of confidence can do for a player.

After Joelinton’s toothless start to life on Tyneside, let’s remember to stick behind our own – especially those who work as hard as the Brazilian did in midweek.
