Steve Bruce tells NUFC to sign Gateshead-born talent available for £10m – Report

According to the Sun, Steve Bruce is interested in bringing Middlesbrough star Hayden Coulson to St James’ Park this summer.

The 21-year-old – who was born down the road in Gateshead – has been an integral part of Jonathan Woodgate’s side since breaking into their first-team this season; and it seems he’s caught our eye.

It’s claimed Bruce has instructed Newcastle scouts to take a closer look at the versatile England youth international, with keen to make a summer move for the left-sided star who’s believed to be valued at £10m by Boro.

In his first full season at Championship level, he’s bagged a goal and an assist in 23 appearances at the Riverside – recently landing himself a contract extension as a result.

Coulson can operate anywhere down the left-hand side, being able to play as a left-back, wing-back or left-midfielder, so his versatility could be something that appeals to Bruce as we switch between a four-man and five-man defence.
