It’s perhaps no surprise that he’s gone with Saint-Maximin, who proved to be the match winner at St Mary’s and had the beating of Valery all afternoon, however Lascelles’ inclusion is a slight surprise – yet hands the skipper recognition he deserves.
We may have played against 10-men for most of Saturday’s win at Southampton, but the captain was rock solid throughout, dealing with everything they threw our way, keeping Ings quiet and showing signs of some improved distrbution too.
Here’s Shearer’s team, which also includes January target Olivier Giroud:
One player who could’ve got his name in Shearer’s team had A) Gayle finished the chances he expertly created or B) he not went off the boil in the second half is Jonjo Shelvey.
His up and down display perhaps sums up his lack of consistency, however he’d have come away with a handful of assists and the man of the match award if Gayle had finished the chances he put on a plate for him on Saturday!
Well done to both Saint-Maximin and Lascelles, with this topping off a great week which saw the former grab a goal and 2 assists and the latter keep 2 clean sheets in 3.
