Report reveals price NUFC can pay to sign Jetro Willems – & Bruce’s thoughts on a permanent deal

According to German outlet Bild, Newcastle are now ‘unlikely’ to pursue a permanent deal for Jetro Willems – despite us having an ‘option to buy’ the Dutchman for £10m.

This comes from the same outlet that revealed the extent of the 25-year-old’s knee injury, with Frankfurt’s club doctor fearing he won’t play again until 2021 after suffering a “very serious” knee injury that’s proven to be even worse than Newcastle first feared.

Bild claim we still have an ‘option to buy’ the former PSV star for €11m (£10m), but state it’s now ‘unlikely’ that Steve Bruce will pursue a permanent deal after fears he’ll be missing for another ‘eight to nine months’.

Willems was outstanding during his time on Tyneside and has made it crystal clear on social media that he plans to return, however it seems the club may be reluctant to sign him given A) he may not be playing again until 2021 and B) he may not be the same player once he recovers from such a career-threatening injury.

Would you like to see us take a risk on Willems – who’s still just 25 – and sign him anyway, or do you fear we’ll have to look elsewhere and regretfully move on given the circumstances?
