On Monday we looked back at Obafemi Martins, while Tuesday saw us pay tribute to Shay Given on St Patrick’s day – and today it’s Nolberto Solano’s turn.

The Peruvian never possessed great pace, but his impeccable technique, superb vision and ability to create spectacular angles with the outside of the right foot is something few Newcastle fans will forget from his time on Tyneside.

Solano – who’s now 45 – made a total of 295 appearances across two separate stints, bagging 48 goals and 11 assists in that period.

8 years on from his retirement, Solano is now the assistant manager with talented international side Peru – who caught the eye at the 2018 World Cup, despite failing to progress from the initial group stage phase.
