According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are now in talks to sign Newcastle target Boubakary Soumaré.
You may be wondering why this comes from a Spanish outlet given these new claims revolve around a Lille midfielder and two English clubs, however Catalan paper ‘SPORT‘ claim Liverpool are rivalling Barcelona in a bid to sign the highly-rated 21-year-old.
This comes a few months after Steve Bruce confirmed we’d tried and failed to sign Soumare in January, with Sky Sports claiming we’d had a £35m bid accepted by Lille – only for the player to turn down a move to Tyneside.
Now, SPORT claim Liverpool are eyeing a summer deal for the midfielder:
“Liverpool have been negotiating with his entourage for some time, but have not signed anything yet,”
This comes just a few days on from a French report that claimed Soumare is yet to shut the door on a potential move to St James’ Park in January, yet talk that he’s been speaking to Liverpool perhaps explains why he said no to Steve Bruce just a few months ago!
We may be prepared to spend big money on the Ligue 1 star who’s been tipped for the top, but convincing him to join when several European giants are in the running is an entirely different matter.
I might have guessed Liverpool would be a more attractive proposition, even though he might not be a regular there!
