According to an ‘exclusive’ from Football Insider, Freddie Woodman will quit Newcastle United this summer if he doesn’t receive assurances from Steve Bruce this summer.
The England U-21 international has shone in the Championship this season, keeping 11 clean sheets during an impressive spell with Swansea, and it’s now claimed he’ll push for a move if he remains down our goalkeeping pecking order.
Football Insider say a ‘Newcastle source’ has told them the 23-year-old will hold talks with Steve Bruce this summer to discuss how he’ll fit into his future plans on Tyneside.
They claim we’re reluctant to lose the talented young stopper, but state there’s a ‘growing expectation’ he’ll look to leave the club permanently – with Martin Dubravka our undisputed no.1 and unlikely to be removed from that role anytime soon based on his superb 2019/20 form.
With Karl Darlow also under contract for another season and our current no.2, the piece claims we may cash in on Woodman if he does push for a permanent move away, stating he’s now valued at £10m by the club after his impressive stint in the second tier.
Is it time for us to promote him to our no.2? Or would be inclined to see us sell up given he’s so unlikely to get in ahead of Dubravka?
