Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce will head into the summer transfer window dreaming of signing players who could make a real difference at St James’ Park.
Bruce added a trio of players to his squad during the January window, with Valentino Lazaro, Nabil Bentaleb and Danny Rose joining on loan until the end of the season.
All three may end up signing on a permanent basis, although Bruce will undoubtedly want to bring in even more players this summer. Read on as we take look at some of his options.
Boubakary Soumare – Lille
Bruce was left frustrated in his pursuit of Soumare during the last window, with the young midfielder turning down a move to Newcastle.
The situation appears to have unsettled the 21-year-old as he has played just seven minutes for the French club since then.
With doubts over the futures of both Sean and Matty Longstaff, it would be no surprise to see the Magpies reignite their interest in Soumare this summer.
However, their hopes of signing may be dashed if Lille manage to book their place in the Champions League next season.
Alfredo Morelos – Rangers
Scoring goals remains a huge problem for Newcastle, with their tally of 25 the joint lowest alongside Norwich City in the Premier League this term.
Fiery Rangers star Alfredo Morelos could be a viable option having bagged 29 goals in 45 appearances for the Scottish club this season.
Signing a player like Morelos could have fans eager to discover the best betting sites for 2020 to back Newcastle to qualify for Europe or win a cup.
Celtic’s Osdonne Edoaurd has also been linked with Newcastle and either player would be a welcome addition to the squad.
Phil Jones – Manchester United
Newcastle have been heavily linked with Jones over the past few weeks and a move to the North East could be just what he needs to rediscover his best form.
Jones was heavily tipped to be the ‘next big thing’ when he first made the breakthrough at Blackburn Rovers, but things haven’t really worked out that way.
His progress at Old Trafford wasn’t helped by being continually played out of position and he has become something of a figure of fun in the English game.
However, Bruce knows a thing or two about defending and he could be the ideal man to bring out the best in Jones.
Toni Borevkovic – Rio Aves
The club are believed to be monitoring the progress of Rio Ave centre-back Toni Borevkovic this season and they are likely to have been impressed by what they’ve seen.
The 22-year-old has shone in Portugal’s top flight this term, helping his club up to fifth place in the standings.
The Croatian is an imposing figure at 6ft 4ins and would undoubtedly give some much-needed presence to Newcastle’s backline.
