“What nonsense!” – NUFC loan star issues response to fake report – Good news for NUFC?

Jetro Willems has hit out at reports claiming he’ll be out injured until 2021 after damaging his knee ligaments earlier this year.

The left-back has undergone ACL surgery and will be missing for a few more months, however he’s insisted that reports in Germany suggesting he’ll be sidelined for “8-9 months” and miss out on a move to Newcastle as a result is “nonsense” – suggesting his injury isn’t as bad as reports are suggesting.

Speaking to Dutch outlet VTBL, here’s what he’s had to say:

“There was a media report recently.

“My injury was supposedly be worse than expected – I had torn my front and rear cruciate ligaments. What nonsense! I don’t know where that came from.

“Maybe some in these times [of no news] are going to invent it?

“I was disappointed with that.

“It was heavy enough that I had suffered such an injury and had a long recovery for me, and then such a nonsense message comes over it from so-called ‘reliable sources’.

“Would they really know better than me? Who is more reliable? Them or me? This is not going to take a year.”

This gives us a glimmer of hope regarding his potential return to St James’ Park this summer, although the club will be keen to see how he’s recovered once he does.

Talk of us Steve Bruce planning to pursue a permanent deal for Danny Rose is also a concern as far as Willems’ future is concerned – but I would argue we need TWO left-backs.

After all, Dummett is now regarded as more of a centre-back, Matt Ritchie isn’t suited to playing at left-back in a four man defence and Achraf Lazaar has no future at the club, meaning Danny Rose is our only natural left-back at present – and he isn’t even owned by the club!

Do you think there’s any chance we sign both this summer?
