According to North-East reporter Ian Murtagh, Steve Bruce is keen to sign Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos – if a move for Odsonne Edouard fails to materialise.
This comes after it was revealed on Sunday night that Edouard has been named the club’s ‘top target’ after a series of video meetings between Steve Bruce and the club’s recruitment team over the past week.
That said, the 22-year-old Frenchman is in high demand – with Everton and several European giants credited with interest – and the Daily Star report that Morelos is the other striker Bruce has his eye on.
Murtagh claims Bruce has previously admitted he’d make a move for the free-scoring Colombian should he become available.
While Edouard has scored a stunning 49 goals in all competitions over the last two seasons, Morelos has been even more prolific, bagging 59 goals in that time – including 6 goals in Ranger’s run to the Europa League knockout stages.
The 23-year-old is a hot head, having been sent off FIVE times over the past 2 years, but his physicality, tenacity and eye for goal give him every chance of making the step up to Premier League level should we make a move.
It would be a slight risk to sign anyone from the SPL, but I think most Mags would welcome potential moves for Edouard or Morelos.
