Last week we put a poll on our Facebook page, asking Newcastle fans the following question – “If NUFC could only sign one of Jetro Willems or Danny Rose on a permanent deal, who would you have us sign?”
The result was a landslide in the Dutchman’s favour, with him gaining 85% of the 3,000 plus votes gained, leaving Spurs loanee Danny Rose being selected by just 15% of Newcastle fans.
Sadly, Willems is injured as things stand, having suffered an ACL tear in our 1-0 win over Chelsea in January, leaving his hopes of securing a permanent move from Frankfurt in doubt.
As for Rose, Steve Bruce has recently expressed his desire to sign the 29-year-old permanently, with Spurs reportedly willing sellers too, however it seems fans favour a move for Willems – and I can see why.
Here’s what voting Newcastle fans had to say in response to the poll:
“Willems all day every day and twice on a Sunday. By far the better LB and posses a lot of skill and can score on his week foot. He definitely is the better option attacking wise.”
“Rose is over weight by at least 2 stone. He’s struggling to keep up with the pace of the game at the minute. I thought when we brought him in it was a good signing, but he hasn’t had the best of starts.”
“Willems also lacked match fitness with not playing regular before us, but still looked better than Rose. His age is also much better (Willems 26 and Rose nearly 30). I’d 100% pick Jetro based on form and age, although when Rose is fit and back to normal weight I think he would still offer good quality….but age is against him now.”
“Simple problem for both, which one can stay fit! At present Rose is far from fit, just need to look at his squirrel cheeks! I’d say Willems normally, but his history is dogged with bad injuries!”
“Wouldn’t go near Jetro with that injury now.”
“Willems, Rose is nowhere near the player he once was. You couldn’t really fault Willems.”
“Willems, but concerns over how he gets over his injury.”
“I fear that Willems won’t fully recover from his injury at all and won’t be the same player, it’s such a shame. I am not participating in a vote because of this!”
Who would you like to see us sign if only one arrived on a permanent deal whenever the transfer window reopens?
