Agent of RB Leipzig star speaks out after claims NUFC are ‘favourites’ to secure £27m signing

Yesterday, German outlet BILD reported that Newcastle United were the ‘favourites’ in a three-horse race to sign RB Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen.

The report claimed the 25-year-old had handed in a transfer request with the Bundesliga side and was also being tracked by Everton and West Ham.

Less than 24 hours later, Poulsen’s agent has responded to the rumours, insisting they are nonsense – and that he’s received no contact from Newcastle as of yet.

Here’s what his agent, Poul-Erik Petersen, told TV2 today when asked if he’d handed in a transfer request:

“There is no truth in this at all.

“Yussuf hasn’t asked to leave, and there are no negotiations with other clubs,”

“We haven’t had any contact with (Newcastle) at all. I can categorically deny this.

“I’d like to make it clear that Yussuf loves being in Leipzig, and that’s basically where he sees himself at the moment.

“But if the situation continues to be as it is at the moment, it’s logical that he doesn’t want to be a reserve.”

So, it seems he could yet leave if he continues to get limited game time when football resumes, but it seems he hasn’t handed in a transfer request and we haven’t made contact over a potential deal.

This isn’t the first time German outlet BILD have been horribly wrong when reporting on NUFC-related matters, with Jetro Willems recently rubbishing their claims that he was set to miss a further ‘8-9 months’ and miss out on a move to Tyneside as a result.

Poulsen may yet be a target – with him being linked with a move to St James’ Park on several occasions over the past few years – but we clearly haven’t made any move as of yet.

  1. There is a saying here in Germany, Bild has an exclusive interview with the corpse.

In other words, don’t believe a word they print.
