Sky Sports reveal 2 shock stats on stunning NUFC player – Our unsung hero for 2019/20?

No Newcastle United player has completed more tackles (28) or won back possession (154!) more than Miguel Almiron so far this season.

This comes from Sky Sports’ latest piece on our contenders for ‘player of the 2019/29’, with the Paraguayan not only nominated but praised for his stunning defensive contributions.

Considering he’s beginning to add goals to his game, with him currently our top scorer on 6 for the season, this highlights just how much the former MLS star is offering at BOTH ends of the pitch.

Here’s what Sky Sports had to say after naming him alongside Dubravka, ASM and Fernandez as one of the top performers on Tyneside so far this season:

Miguel Almiron finally ended that 11-month wait for a first Premier League goal against Crystal Palace back in December but the Toon Army’s backing for the little Paraguayan never diminished as his tireless work continued.

Almiron’s defensive efforts are striking – he has won more tackles (28) and wrestled back possession more times (154) than any of his peers – but Bruce’s switch to a 4-2-3-1 has allowed him to shine as creative force in the No 10 role.

Now his confidence in front of goal has been boosted, we are starting to see exactly why Rafa Benitez was desperate to sign him from Atlanta last January.

It was a risk, and at times it looked like it would backfire if his lack of composure in the final third failed to improve, however he possesses that rare blend of pace, skill, energy and hard work that’s not often found in modern day attackers.

Here’s hoping he continues on from where he left off when football finally returns!
