Premier League receive offer from the FA in bid to finish 19/20 season behind closed doors – Report

We could finally be set for another top flight visit to Wembley, with the Chronicle revealing that the FA have offered the national stadium to the Premier League if and when the season resumes behind closed doors.

The only time Newcastle have reached the new Wembley is when we have played Spurs away in recent years (twice), but there was a strong chance of us getting there on merit in the FA Cup before the season was postponed.

A trip to Wembley could still be on the cards if the Premier League take the FA up on this offer, with St George’s Park – England’s official training ground in Burton On Trent – also being proposed as part of the plan.

Knowing our luck when it comes to rare trips to Wembley, we’ll have to settle for the latter – not that anyone would mind if it allowed for football to safely return to our screens!

The future of the FA Cup is still unclear. It would be a shame yet understandable if the cup was declared null and void in order to finish the League season off, but it would still leave a gutting feeling in the stomach of every Toon fan.
