Some bizarre claims have emerged from Turkey this afternoon, claiming table topping Trabzonspor are eyeing a shock move for Joelinton.
This comes from Turkish outlet Fotomac (Via Sport Witness), who claim they are looking to bolster their attacking ranks now they’re well on course to be competing in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
They claim they’re ‘interested’ in the Brazilian – despite him bagging just 1 league goal in 29 games since completing a £40m move from Hoffenheim last summer – and say they’re keen to sign him as a replacement for recently departed striker Daniel Sturridge.
That said, there’s a whole host of reasons this latest transfer link must be taken with one almighty pinch of salt.
Not only might we have new owners (and even a new manager?) in place for the next transfer window, Trabzonspor are A) not the most attractive proposition for Joelinton and B) seem so unlikely to be able to afford a player we’d be unwilling to sell on the cheap.
They may be interested, but this just seems like a non starter – even if the 23-year-old is having a tough time on Tyneside..
Bring RAFA BACK TO THE TOON.
