According to reports in France, Newcastle United are eyeing a summer deal for Rennes star Faitout Maouassa.
This comes from L’Equipe, who claim that ourselves and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old talent – and plan to hold talks with him in the coming months over a potential transfer.
Interestingly, the same outlet report that we made a €8m to sign the versatile wing-back in January last year, suggesting we have long-standing interest in the French youth international.
As you can see above, he comes highly recommended from Ligue 1 journalist David Crossnan, who believes he could leave for a fee in the region of ‘€10-12m’ in the current climate.
It’s difficult to know how we’d be pursuing long-term targets given wholesale changes look set to take place on Tyneside, but with Willems suffering a serious injury and Rose set to return to Spurs this summer when his loan expires, we’ll definitely need a new left-back this summer – no matter who’s in charge!
