According to Bleacher Report, the Saudi-backed buyers closing in on a Newcastle United takeover are planning to spend big this summer once their arrival on Tyneside is confirmed.
As revealed in Dean Jones’ intriguing piece, Bleacher Report claim to have been told that a spend of up to £150m could be sanctioned – with the buyers believing this will be achievable in the next transfer window, despite FFP restrictions.
They also state that Lyon striker Moussa Dembele has already been earmarked as ‘possible option’, stating that we’re expected to shop in the ‘bracket beneath Griezmann and Co’.
The piece insists that the would-be buyers are well aware that ‘elite-level’ signings may be unrealistic during their first transfer window in charge – stating we should probably forget about shock links with the likes of Griezmann, Cavani and Werner for now:
To use one example, a source told B/R, “Edinson Cavani has not jumped at a transfer to Atletico Madrid and has also turned down offers from clubs in Italy so far, so why would he want to join Newcastle?”
Forget about names like Griezmann, Cavani and Werner for now. That tier of player will not arrive this year because of the team’s current status as much as anything to do with financing.
This may be a sobering report for fans hoping to see world stars arrive at St James’ Park this summer, but it goes without saying that we’ll have to build as a club both on and off the pitch before we can expect any top class players to join.
Yes money talks, but it seems these buyers see this as a long-term project and plan to build gradually – not throw crazy money at any big name without considering the club’s finances.
The report also states that NO approaches have been made for any potential Steve Bruce replacement as of yet, with the NUFC boss set to see out the remainder of the season (if it happens!) first. With that in mind, I don’t see how ‘possible’ transfer targets like Dembele have already been eyed, but it’s all exciting to hear nonetheless.
No more age limits, shopping in the bargain basement or haggling over the odd million for our top targets, hopefully..

If you read the piece in full I do state that it seems highly unlikely that new owners would be lining up targets before they’ve picked their long-term manager, but there you go..

I think keith Bishop and associates are flat out at the moment churning out this horsesh-t. I dont believe any of this takeover propaganda. Too many red flags for me. I will believe it when I see it
