Brazilian contacted by NUFC – and Saudis told club are willing to sell him for €20m – Report

According to reports in Spain, Emerson – a Brazilian talent currently co-owned by Real Betis and Barcelona – has received contact from Newcastle United over a potential summer transfer.

This comes via Spanish outlet Sport, who claim we’ve been in touch with the 21-year-old over his availability.

As a result, the report states that Barcelona could pay €6m to Betis to own him outright, and then allow him to leave for €20m (£17.5m) this when the transfer window reopens, with him not expected to be in the La Liga side’s long-term plans.

With the would-be new owners of Newcastle United expected to replace Steve Bruce when the season ends (if it ever does!), any inquiries made on their behalf to sound out potential future targets must be taken with a pinch of salt.

After all, the Saudi-backed buyers can make all the plans they want, but you’ think definite transfer targets will only be shortlisted once they know exactly who will be their manager for the 2020/21 season.

That said, Roman Abramovich has proven on several occasions at Chelsea that silly-rich owners can sometimes decide on their own signings, so who knows what the Saudis are lining up as they await Premier League approval.
