Mike Ashley now planning to buy another football club once £300m takeover is sealed – Report

According to the Daily Star, Mike Ashley is already planning to buy an EFL club once a £300m takeover at Newcastle United goes through – however a Premier League return has been described as ‘unlikely’.

The piece claims that a ‘source close to Ashley’ has informed them that he’s NOT been put off from football despite his failed stint at St James’ Park, stating he’d “love” to invest in a Football League club with a ‘sound fanbase and potential to grow’.

Here’s a snippet we’ve been sent by @NUFC360 from today’s Daily Star, detailing his plans to buy a EFL club once he receives his £300m:

“Once the cash is on the table Ashley is ready to end his 13-year tenure on Tyneside and look elsewhere’.

“A source close to Ashley has told the Daily Star Sunday that continuing problems at St James’ Park has not put him off owning another English club.

“But it is unlikely to be a Premier League outfit.

“We have been told that Ashley would love to invest in an EFL club with a sound fanbase and potential to grow.

“He will point to the fact that he will leave Newcastle debt-free – one of the few clubs in the Prem which is in the black.”

Just when we think this moron may be finally turning his back on football, we read this!

One club that springs to mind it Bolton Wanderers – a former Premier League regular who are now in danger of dropping down into the FOURTH tier of English football should the current season not be deemed null and void.

That said, I know a EFL club with a big following (well, when they fancy it) who might fit the bill..

  1. Hey Ashley Sunderland fans loved your tenure in Newcastle so please do them a favour!

Heard SAFC is available on cheap too!

  2. “He’d love to invest in another football team”. When did he ever ‘invest’ in ours?
No spending on the stadium or training facilities, no overall outlay on signings (almost a plus figure in his favour over 13 years of transfer windows), cutting of staff to the bare bones and employing the cheapest managers and coaching staff.
The only thing he invested in was money into his bank account from our TV revenue, Premier League placings money, season ticket sales, sponsorship, catering and merchandising etc. plus FREE advertising for his brand.
Whoever he rocks up to next they’re welcome to him.

  4. 15 miles away is another club desperate for an owner like you, a million would buy the club and give you change to buy 11 new players too

  5. I have heard he has been talking to Stewart Donald about buying Sunderland, and once NUFC is off his hands he is going to move to either to SAFC or Rangers.

  9. It would just be like Ashley to buy the Makems and then throw money at them to get them back to the premier in the big scheme of things it wouldn’t take much 40-50m to buy them 100m over the course of 2-3 yrs and you’re back he does have a history of getting us back when we went down and he would be the makem saviour just to **** us off but hopefully we’ll be challenging back at the top end by then we won’t give a **** anyway.
