Transfer chief recalled ahead of £300m takeover – Players to return & Bruce to stay…for now – Report

Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson has been recalled from furlough leave with news of a takeover announcement expected to be imminent, according to the Mail’s Craig Hope.

Nickson and his team were told to adhere to the government retention scheme, but he’s now been asked to return to action by Mike Ashley.

Hope’s latest ‘exclusive’ for the Daily Mail states that Nickson will be working on a list of targets on the proviso that Bruce will remain at the held..for now at least.

The North-East reporter revealed last week that our new owners are keen to keep Bruce in charge – for the short-term at least – and he could be given until the end of the season to see whether he is the right man to take us forward in the long run.

Bizzarely, the article also states that our players have been told to stay on alert for a possible return to training as early as ‘the end of next week’, something that I think seems unlikely given the virus is still at large.

A major positive is that Hope’s piece is written as though the takeover is a formality, and he doesn’t give any inkling to suggest that the deal has taken a turn for the worst.

Looks like we’ll just have to sit on our hands a little longer while we wait for an announcement..
