George Caulkin has given the strongest indication yet that a Saudi-backed takeover is all set to be confirmed.
The Athletic writer – who’s previously seen proof of Amanda Staveley’s bids – insisted yesterday that we shouldn’t be stressed about their ability to gain Premier League approval, and he’s now stated that they’ll be given the green light “very soon”.
Here’s what he’s had to say on Twitter just moments ago, stating that ‘the money not appearing in Ashley’s bank’ is now the only thing that’s going to stop this Stavelely-led buyout:
“Once the PL give approval which they will, very soon, the only thing that could stop it would be the money not appearing in Ashley’s bank.
“That’s what I’m told. The money transfer is likely to take a few days, because that’s how it works.”
Considering this comes from a man who’s widely accepted to be the regions most credible reporter, this feels like the reassuring update so many Newcastle fans have been desperate to hear after the silence yesterday and claims this morning that a ‘rival bid’ has emerged from America.
So, it seems we may hear the announcement we’ve all been waiting for once the money transfers – which he states will take ‘a few days’.
Cynics may say “I’ll believe it when Ashley gets his cash”, but this £300m shouldn’t exactly be a problem given the group buying us have access to over $260bn!
Sit tight folks, it sounds like the good news will arrive ‘very soon’.

If possibly the world’s wealthiest consortium has knocked down 50m off the original price why would anyone pay 50m more ?
It’s utter tat journalism
