Report reveals what Saudis have just now Coutinho’s agent as they prep ‘major’ bid for Barcelona star

Just a few moments ago, George Caulkin claimed the Saudi-backed consortium WILL receive the Premier League approval “very soon” to complete the purchase of Newcastle United.

It’s the biggest sign yet that a £300m deal looks set to take place, and it’s been followed by some huge claims in Spain regarding the man they want to be their first “major” signing at St James’ Park.

This should be taken with a pinch of salt – no matter how much money our soon-to-be new owners have – but Spanish outlet Sport claim they’ve already made contact with Philippe Coutinho’s agent; and have signalled their readiness to pay Barcelona’s €90m (£78m) asking price.

The report states that the Saudis are ‘squeezing hard‘ to make the Brazilian their first huge signing as new owners of NUFC and have reportedly told his representatives to ‘hold off signing a deal elsewhere before their takeover is completed‘.

Here’s a snippet from Sports Witness‘ piece, which translates what’s being reported in Spain this morning:

Newcastle United are ‘squeezing hard’ to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona this summer and have asked the player’s entourage to hold off signing a deal elsewhere before their takeover is completed.

The Magpies are on the verge of being taken over by a Saudi investment fund which would, by all accounts, turn them into the club with the richest owners in the Premier League.

Should it go through as anticipated the club will undergo a significant overhaul this summer, with several big-name signings planned.

Coutinho is one they are keen on, according to Sport, with them knowing he would be a ‘major’ capture for the club.

They are pressing for his signature but have asked his agents to wait while they first complete the takeover and then find themselves a high-profile manager to replace Steve Bruce.

The Brazilian is among their priorities, and they intend to match Barcelona’s asking price to secure him ahead of the competition.

That currently stands at €90m, with the La Liga giants keen to move him on from the Camp Nou ‘as soon as possible’ so they can add to their own forward line.

This is now the third of fourth outlet to suggest we’re seriously interested in the former Liverpool star – make of that what you will – while big names like Edinson Cavani, Kalidou Koulibaly, Arturo Vidal and Nabil Fekir also being linked.

They couldn’t make many huge signings due to FFP and it goes without saying that we have a LONG way to go before a sea of top players would consider us (money only talks for so many), but you can be sure the Saudis will want to mark their arrival with a BIG marquee signing, just as Man City owners did with Robinho many years ago.

From Mike Ashley and bargain basement buys to being potentially the richest club on the planet and bidding for world class players..

Newcastle United, eh!

  1. Whoa whoa whoa – Lets get the manager sorted first just in case he might have a view on which players he would like to sign – yes.
