NUFC player to leave on the cheap after £300m takeover – Club already showing interest – Report

According to reports, Javier Manquillo is ‘unlikely’ to land a new contract at St James’ Park, and could complete a free agent move to Fenerbahce this summer as a result.

This comes from Turkish media outlet Fotomac, which puts Fenerbahce’s interest down to the fact Chilean right-back Mauricio Isla is set to be released this summer – leaving them in need of a replacement.

Manquillo has been solid for us over the past 18 months, proving many of his early doubters wrong, but is hardly a world-beater that fans will be concerned about leaving the club.

That said, many of the responses to the below tweet show how he’s turned things around in the mind of many Newcastle fans:

He may have been offered a new contract had a £300m takeover never emerged, with him doing a very decent job under Steve Bruce, but with him, Krafth and Yedlin all on our books, we’ve got plenty of options down that right-hand side, and will no doubt be looking to make major improvements.

However, on a free, Manquillo would be a decent signing for any bottom half Premier League or top-half Championship club.

If this is his last year at St James’ Park, we wish him the best of luck!

  1. He’s one of only a handfull I would actually keep….
I would also keep Lascelles, Dubravka, Fernandez, Schar, Lascelles, Ritchie,Almeron, St Maximum, Bentaleb and Lazaro..The rest are not top half players, So that would tell you they need at least 15 new players to even compete,so I hope these new owners do indeed have deep pockets as they will need it….
