Mike Ashley’s position now untenable as Sky Sports announce we won’t see another game at SJP this season

In March, both the NUST and protest group Toon For Change urged Mike Ashley to, for once, do right by Newcastle fans during this time of crisis and stop taking season ticket payment.

With all football postponed and no return date set as this global pandemic persists, Mike Ashley / Newcastle United have continued to take direct debits, charging fans for season ticket renewals and all payments on future season tickets.

As expected, no sympathy was shown towards loyal fans, however he now has nowhere to hide – even if he’s self-isolating over in the States and expected to sell the club in the coming days/weeks.

Why? Because Sky Sports have now confirmed that, following a meeting between Premier League chiefs on Friday, there’ll be no more home games across the 2019/20 season.

As Sky Sports’ chief reporter Bryan Swanson states above, any Premier League games that may commence over the final 9 games of the season will be played at neutral venues – with clubs told that ‘home’ games are deemed ‘unrealistic’ and ‘will not happen’.

Mike, you may be on the way out, but it’s time to stop all payments and return the money our club are continuing to take from loyal fans – especially during these unprecedented times that have caused so many to struggle financially.

This could turn out to be easy PR for potential new owners to get fans immediately onside, but this is a situation that must be dealt with urgently, with us hearing stories about several Newcastle fans in dire need of the cash NOW – not next week or next month.

Considering it’s now been all but confirmed that we won’t see another game at St James’ Park over the ‘2019/20’ campaign and haven’t a clue when next season will start, you really have no more excuses.

  1. “ So why can’t we have home games at home and play games
as normal behind closed doors and shown on tv free to those
who have season tickets and already paid for ,this to me seems
a very sensible way to do it “……..

  2. It’s not only this seasons games where we will get no home matches played, it’s now being suggested that the whole of next season could be played behind closed doors. Imagine Ashley’s dismay if he had to refund all the money he has disgracefully taken out of the season ticket holders’ accounts bearing in mind he didn’t know when fans will be able to use their seats.

The man is an absolute disgrace. He takes money from fans’ accounts for games the fans wont be able to attend, he tried to keep his shops open on the flimsy suggestion that he runs an “essential service”, thus putting his staff at risk which the government forced him to close down then he buggers off to Florida to escape all the negative publicity.

Just imagine if he has engineered this “take over” to deflect the criticism of his actions?

because it is inevitable that crowds will turn up at St James Park, imagine if Liverpool were allowed to play their games at Anfield, there would be thousands turning up just to celebrate. The league has to be played out at a neutral ground in order to manage the amount of people who will definitely turn up to support their teams.

  7. The chance of Mike Ashley paying back anything whether he flogs the club or not, are nil.
If he doesn’t sell, he and probably the club are done for.

  8. The sooner we get rid of Ashley and his cronies the better. He has run the club into the ground and has no respect for any of the loyal fans that line his pockets. From furloughing his staff to wanting to keep sports direct shops open during this pandemic is disgraceful. Mr Ashley your days are numbered and hopefully sooner rather than later your face will never b seen in Newcastle ever again.
