Two new names linked ahead of £300m takeover – England international & £50m flop

Two new names have now been thrown into the hat of players linked with potential moves to St James’ Park should a £300m Saudi takeover go through – Jess Lingard and Luka Jovic.

Starting with Lingard, the Daily Mail have credited us with interest in a cut-price move for the Man United midfielder.

Leicester, West Ham and Everton are also rumoured to be interested in the England international, whose contract is set to expire in the summer of 2021.

Lingard has been poor for Man United this season, failing to register a single goal or assist in 20 Premier League appearances so far, and has fallen way down in the pecking order since the arrival of fan favourite Bruno Fernandez.

We could offer him an escape route, but the Red Devil’s still have an option to extend his contract by a further year should they want to.

This news comes following a report by 90min linking us to move for £50m Real Madrid flop Luka Jović.

The 22-year-old Serbian has struggled for minutes at the Bernabeu since a big money move from Frankfurt – scoring just twice all season compared to the 27 he bagged in the Bundesliga across 2018/19 – so a switch to a Saudi-backed Newcastle United could be seen as the ideal exit plan to help relaunch his career.

A move for Lingard would not be a wise move in my opinion, with the midfielders questionable attitude more than anything else swaying me away from wanting him to wear a black-and-white shirt. Plus, he’s hardly in-form or a top class player that would vastly improve our team.

Jović is a striker – exactly the role we need given our lack of potency in front of goal. His lack of experience and poor stint in Spain may make him a risk, but with him still young and enjoying a stunning few seasons in Germany not so long ago, he could be one that’s worth taking *should* he prove to be a future target.

We shall see, but I just want to see this takeover get announced in the first place before we spend too much time wondering who’s going to sign!

  1. I agree, Lingard has an attitude problem and we don’t need that but Jovic could be a steal at £50m IF he finds the form he showed in Germany

  2. Lingard would be TERRIBLE business, now Jović at 50 could be unbelievable bit business.
